National Poetry Day

By / September 28, 2017 / , , / 0 Comments

Today is National Poetry Day, and this year’s theme is Freedom! National poetry day is an annual celebration of poetry that inspires all to enjoy, share and write poetry! This holiday was founded in 1994 by William Seighart in the United Kingdom, and has since inspired people all over the world to participate. In 1999 themes for poetry were introduce as a guide, not as a perspective.  The reason for creating this holiday was to keep the love for poetry alive, continue to build an audience interested in poetry, and to introduce more children to poetry and literary arts. Many non-profit organizations focus on poetry and are responsible for providing teachers tools and material to teach poetry to their students and also award scholarships to top recipients. Some of these organizations are Academy of American Poets and Scholastic Art & Writing.
