Hurricane Harvey has dropped over 2 feet of rain in the gulf of Texas, which has affected thousands of lives. According to FEMA Administrator Brock Long, approximately 30,000 people may need shelter, and over 450,000 people qualify for federal flood victim assistance. People all over the country are doing what they can to help our fellow citizens in need. But be aware there are many disaster relief scams out there! Here are some ways that you can help the citizens of Texas and avoid any scams. First we suggest that you do some research on the charity you plan on donating to; you can also visit Charity Navigator to get the 411 on your charity. You can also donate money through these national charity organizations Salvation Army, Samaritans Purse, Red Cross ,& Center for Disaster Philanthropy . Also, instead of donating food consider donating money to these food banks Houston Food Bank, Food Bank of Corpus Christi , & Central Texas Food Bank. For more websites to donate to, visit NPR.Org.
